Vulvovaginal Atrophy

Vulvovaginal Atrophy

- intimate discomfort after menopause -

Vulvovaginal atrophy is a consequence of declining estrogen levels, commonly seen in menopause or postpartum. It is characterized by thinning of the mucosa, dryness, and increased fragility.

How does it manifest itself?

Symptoms include vaginal dryness, a burning sensation, itching, pain during sexual contact, and episodes of minor bleeding. The mucosa is thin, fragile, sometimes pale or with micro-fissures.

Causes and Mechanism

Decreased estrogen reduces vascularization and natural lubrication, changing the elasticity and thickness of the mucosa. This increases susceptibility to irritation and recurrent infections.

Therapeutic solutions

Formulele magistrale allow restoration and hydration of the mucosa:
  • creme sau geluri with estradiol or other local estrogens
  • emollients and gels cu acid hialuronic
  • gentle soothing and anti-inflammatory agents to reduce the burning sensation
  • vehicule neutre, free of fragrance or irritating preservatives
