Irritative urethritis

Irritative urethritis

- When irritation becomes more than just discomfort -

Irritative urethritis is characterized by inflammation of the urethra without an obvious infectious cause, manifesting as discomfort and a burning sensation when urinating.

How does it manifest itself?

Symptoms may include:
  • burning or stinging sensation when urinating
  • frequent need to urinate
  • disconfort perineal
The area may be sensitive, and symptoms worsen after exposure to chemical irritants or friction.

Causes and Mechanism

Causes include exposure to irritating substances (soaps, hygiene gels, detergents), maceration, friction, or local reactions to medications. Chronic inflammation makes symptoms more likely and can promote sensitization of the urethral mucosa.

Therapeutic solutions

Compounded preparations can reduce inflammation and protect the mucosa:
  • gels or ointments with soothing and anti-inflammatory agents: pantenol, bisabolol, dexpanthenol
  • local emollients for hydration and protection: glycerin, gentle plant oils
  • formule neutre, free of fragrance or preservatives
  • combinations with gentle antiseptic agents, if there is a risk of superinfection
