Oral Mucositis

Mucozitele orale are inflammations of the oral mucosa, frequently associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or other systemic treatments. They cause pain and difficulty eating.
How does it manifest itself?
Symptoms may include:
- durere
- ulcerations
- burning sensation
- difficulty chewing or swallowing
Causes and Mechanism
Mucositis occurs from direct damage to epithelial cells by medications or radiotherapy. The inflammation leads to loss of mucosal integrity and increases local sensitivity.
Therapeutic solutions
Compounded preparations help soothe and protect the mucosa:
- gels for hydration and repair with panthenol, glycerin, or hyaluronic acid
- gentle anti-inflammatory agents: bisabolol, soothing plant extracts (chamomile)
